Ancient Kingdoms & Emerald Highlands
Sri Lanka — the teardrop-shaped island at the southern tip of India — is one of Asia's most rewarding travel destinations. The Pearl of the Indian Ocean Trail is a 6-day journey through the island's extraordinary diversity: the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya, the sacred city of Kandy, the misty tea highlands of Ella, and the pristine beaches of the south coast. This package packs an extraordinary amount of history, culture, wildlife, and natural beauty into six days, making it one of the most value-packed international packages in our portfolio.
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo, and transfer directly to Sigiriya (approximately 4 hours). En route, stop at Dambulla Cave Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising five cave temples carved into a massive granite outcrop, housing 153 Buddha statues and 2,100 sq metres of ancient murals dating back to the 1st century BC. Continue to Sigiriya and check in to your hotel. In the evening, explore the village around Sigiriya Rock and enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan dinner — rice and curry with coconut sambol, dhal, and papadum.
December to March for the west and south coasts (Mirissa, Colombo). April to September for the east coast. The Cultural Triangle (Sigiriya, Kandy) is pleasant year-round. Avoid May–June (southwest monsoon) for the south coast.
